The lodge opened in 2024 to provide an exclusive wilderness base away from the heavier boat traffic of the main rivers. The location gives you immediate access to 2 different habitats from a single property. You step from the ancient lowland dipterocarp forest straight into the tidal mudflats and mangrove networks of the Segama coastline.
The entire lodge is constructed on elevated platforms to preserve the jungle floor and allow animals to move freely underneath. You walk between the main building and your room on raised wooden pathways known as the Hornbill and Attenborough boardwalks. These corridors are lit by oil lamps after dark. The property maintains a strictly low-impact operation. The lodge treats all waste through a state-of-the-art system to ensure zero sewage enters the water table. The team harvests rainwater for the kitchen and hauls non-biodegradable refuse back to Sandakan for recycling.
